ALEXANDER BABURIN: THE BISHOP SACRIFICE ON h6 AND THE QUEEN SHIFT

Greetings. In this post, I review a book than seems it excellent for me, in which it that describe different pawn structures on different moments in the game; I concern the book “Winninig Pawn Structures” of the Grandmaster Alexander Baburin (Link). The book is for the reader, and in a special manner, for an amateur chess player how I'm, so much easier to study. Alexander Baburin is a Russian-Irish Grandmaster of chess. Born in Gorky, since 1993 he has lived in Dublin, Ireland and is editor-in-chief of the e-mail distributed chess newspaper Chess Today (Link). On the other hand, It surprises me to find a video where the Grandmaster Baburin is playing a blindfold blitz chess game, that can be seen clearly on the board and can be useful to learn with an example this training method. For this reason I considered putting the video.

The book has many good examples, but I decided for one of them: Queen's pawn isolated, a structure very common, but very difficult to play, thus, it is convenient for the player to have clear concepts in this type of positions. Baburin's says about bishop sacrifice on h6 (h3): “This sacrifice usually occurs when the side playing against the isolate d-pawn weaknes his kingside by playing ..h7-h6 (or h2-h3). The sacrifice usually results in a great exposure of the opponent's monarch and often leads to the defeat of the defender, whose pieces cannot take care of the exposed king. This motif is very typical for positions with the isolated d-pawn, so knowledge of this attacking pattern is very important for a better understanding of the analysed pawn formation”. Now the game, the comments of course belong to the GM Alexander Baburin.
